Absent-minded, weird musician with a passion for metal and/or anything that tickles my fancy. 23, Norway.
Been listening to As The Palaces Burn lately (been a while since the last time). A lot. Actually LISTENING, like taking the time to sit down and almost analyze it to a point.
So fucking raw and brutal it’s amazing. There’s something about it you won’t find on later albums.
This could probably be said about NAG or BTP too, but in all honesty those are at the bottom of my list.
Maybe it’s the lack of a polished production. I’m not sure.
I’ve studied music production for 2 years, so I’ve become very analytical of stuff and it sounds really different from the newer albums. The drum sound is probably what has changed the most from “the early days”. Sounds tighter and a lot more polished. But not to the extent that it sounds fake or too clinical.
The “standard” for modern Metal has become this robotic, machinery type of sound when it comes to drums (this is an endless topic). But even throughout the new albums it sounds like Chris all the way. Which I love.
So if you happen to be one of those who found LoG after Ashes turned out huge, DEFINITELY take a couple of listens to As The Palaces Burn. Gets better every time. I promise.
PS: Fucking love me a good snare drum.
The package that my deluxe edition (w/tshirt) came in had a couple of used door hinges in it haha! Don’t even know how to react. Wtf?
